Our Keys family understands that the universe is very big and we can never comprehend it, or see even a small part of it. But it still amazes us to think that we can look into the night sky from various locations and see formations, patterns, and beauty within and among the stars that remind us of the beauty, rhythm, and music that we experience everyday on this earth. The night sky is such a mystery and yet it is beautiful with all of its celestial objects including the constellations. While we were together the other day with our children Karson & Kylie, and our happy dog KIngston in a beautiful forest during a summer evening, we saw a constellation that looked like a grand piano! What a perfect way for us to see universal nature and music at its finest with objects that remind us of our music and love for piano playing.

In between our concert performances, teaching piano lessons, and helping people with their music, we try to set aside some time and take a bit of time off with our family and experience natural things that inspire us and keep us humble, and make us thankful for what we have. One of our favorite places to go is to the beach with our kids and dog. Our children love it when we take them there and being able to experience the ocean waves, the beach, and to sit around a fire pit in the early evening. Our children love to look at the night sky with its stars and constellations and pick out constellation images. In fact, on a recent visit to a American coastal beach in the evening, we spotted the Grand Piano Constellation (GPC) that we had seen once before from a forest!

We also like going out during the day and exploring the coast, the local towns, and cities along the way, and being able just to walk casually on the beaches and piers and talk with the local people about life and music. We are definitely a “people loving family” and we enjoy meeting new people in these casual ways such as walking on the beach piers where people gather to play, eat, go fishing, and just to relax. It makes us very happy to do and experience these things.

We were visiting some friends in Knoxville, Tennessee not long ago during the summer, and decided to take a drive up to the Great Smoky Mountains and go through a small portion of that area. We love to see the fireflies that glow and show their little lights at night during that time of year. The living nature in that area is amazing when you can personally see and hear it. We love to experience different parts of America with its vast array of unique and special wildlife, insects, and other creatures that God put on this earth. It is so completely different in Tennessee than what we experience in our home state. These things inspire us to write and play new piano music to honor  and cherish these beautiful times that we are able to have together.

Kevin & Katie Keys - Kawai Celestial Grand Piano
Playing the Kawai Celestial Grand Piano

We were so excited to be invited to play a special piano concert at a performance venue we had never played at before. We had heard about this amazing place and that it had a one-of-a-kind “Celestial Grand Piano” which has this beautiful, rich, and resonant sound along with its night-time Celestial exterior that was custom designed for this performance venue. We had never played this grand piano before but we were confident we would love it because it was produced by our favorite brand, Kawai. We put a lot of energy and emotion into this concert performance for the audience, and we know they appreciated it. We really enjoyed playing this fabulous Celestial themed Grand Piano at the beautiful “night sky” venue so much, and we hope to do it again one day.
